In a commercial Layer Poultry Farm the key to a successful business is to monitor
the performance of every Layer Flock of poultry farm very closely. Feed per bird, Percentage Production
and Mortality are the back bone of Layer Business.
1. Daily Feed per Bird: Total Feed Consumed (grams) by Flock on a day / Total no of hens present on that day.
Feed per bird can vary due to lot of factors. For Example if the layer flock is in stress due to hot weather it starts eating less feed.
The Energy and Protein requirement of the flock gets changed due to less consumption of feed. So Feed Formula should be changed according to Feed per bird.
2. Daily Production Percentage: (Total no of eggs produced on a particular day / Total no of hens present on that day)*100 %
The Profit of Layer Farm depends on Production. Always consult a doctor if this value is lower than expected.
3. Mortality: No of birds died on a Particular day.
If there is sudden increase in mortality on a specific day, immediately consult a doctor. It may represent a disease in layer flock.
4. Hen House Production: Total no of Eggs Produced by Flock/Total no of Hens present in Flock at the beginning of Laying Period (18 weeks)
Hen House Production is the value which tells how a Flock has performed in its life time in your Poultry Farm. It represents which breed of flocks is performing better in your environment. Higher Hen House Production Value means higher profits by that flock.
5. Body Weight: Body Weight of Layer Flock should be monitored at regular intervals. If it deviates from the standard body weight required at a particular age then change the Energy and Protein values of feed accordingly. Right body weight means healthy bird.
Following are some standards for Commercial White Egg Layer Flock. These parameters may vary with breed of flock, weather conditions, water management, feed management, vaccinations etc. So this guide is just for reference. Please take guidance of doctors before changing anything in your farm.
